How are you Feeling?

Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling.


Sometimes big emotions come out as sharp words, withdrawal, anger, or rejection. But underneath the outburst, there is often a child trying to communicate pain, fear, overwhelm, or a need for connection.


When we pause long enough to listen beneath the words, we help children feel safe and understood. We also give them the emotional language they will need next time.


A calm response does not excuse hurtful words. It teaches children how to name what is happening inside them and repair what comes out.
